Short answer
- This is the actual list my team and I hand to guests, not a ranking scraped from review sites.
- Fifty places, all of them eaten at by someone who works here.
- Sixteen are in the Sơn Trà beach area near us, so if you are staying on the beach side you can reach them in minutes.
- Start with bánh xèo Bà Dưỡng, mì Quảng Bà Mua and any of the Bé Mặn seafood houses if you only have a few days.
- Bring cash and confirm the price per kilo before seafood is cooked.
Most “best restaurants in Da Nang” articles are assembled from review-site rankings by someone who has never been to the city.
This one is different in a boring but important way: every place on it has been eaten at by me or by someone on my team. We built it because guests kept asking, and because sending a list is faster than answering the same question fifty times.
That also means it is honest about what it is. It is not exhaustive, it is not ranked, and it skews toward the part of the city we live in. What it gives you is a shortlist you can act on without gambling on a stranger’s review.
How to use this list
A few things worth knowing before you start ordering.
Addresses are written the way locals write them. Da Nang reorganised its administrative units on 1 July 2025 and the old district names are no longer official, but everyone here still says “Sơn Trà” and “Hải Châu”, and Grab still finds addresses written that way.
So the addresses below are exactly as we use them.
Sixteen of these are in the Sơn Trà beach area, which is where our villa is. If you are staying anywhere along My Khe or the northern beach end, those are your everyday options.
Ten are across the river in Hải Châu, which is a ten to fifteen minute Grab ride and worth it for the bars and a couple of the specialities.
We have deliberately not put prices or opening hours here. Small places in Da Nang change both without warning, and a list that is wrong is worse than a list that is silent. Ask us on the day and we will call ahead for you.
Nearest to us
If you are staying with us at 64 Lê Mạnh Trinh, these are the ones you can reach quickest.
Dã Viên, Korean food, is at 86 Lê Mạnh Trinh, the same street, a few doors down. That is as close as a recommendation gets.
The others in the immediate area:
| Place | Food | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Nhà hàng Phước Thái | seafood | 18 Hồ Nghinh, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Phở Long Hói | phở | 122 Hồ Nghinh, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Mỳ Quảng Bà Mua | mì Quảng with frog | 259 Hồ Nghinh |
| Phố Nướng TokyO | BBQ | 4 Phạm Văn Đồng, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Ốc Ly Pé | shellfish | 03-05 An Trung Đông 3, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| PER Korean food | Korean | 10 Phạm Tu, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| My Casa | Spanish | 53 Morrison, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Thực Dưỡng Bảo An | vegetarian | 56 Hoàng Bích Sơn, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| Bếp Huế | Vietnamese, Hue style | 185 Nguyễn Văn Thoại, An Hải Đông, Sơn Trà |
| Veteran restaurant | BBQ | 8 Dương Đình Nghệ, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| Samwon | BBQ | 74 Dương Đình Nghệ |
Hồ Nghinh is the street to know. It has seafood, phở and mì Quảng within a couple of hundred metres of each other, which makes it the easiest street in the city to feed a group that cannot agree.
Where do you go for seafood?
Seafood is the thing Da Nang does better than anywhere else in Vietnam, and it is the reason most of our guests remember the trip.
| Place | Address |
|---|---|
| Hải Sản Bà Rô | 115 Lý Tử Tấn, Thọ Quang, Sơn Trà |
| Hải sản Năm Đảnh | 59/38/10 Trần Quang Khải, Thọ Quang, Sơn Trà |
| Hải Sản Bé Mặn A | Lô 11 Võ Nguyên Giáp, Sơn Trà |
| Hải Sản Bé Mặn B | Lô 2 Võ Nguyên Giáp, Mân Thái, Sơn Trà |
| Hải sản bé Yến | 45 Nguyễn Sáng, Mân Thái, Sơn Trà |
| Ốc Ly Pé | 03-05 An Trung Đông 3, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| Hải Sản Mộc | 26 Tô Hiến Thành |
| Nhà hàng Phước Thái | 18 Hồ Nghinh, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
The two Bé Mặn houses on Võ Nguyên Giáp are the ones we send first-timers to, because they sit on the beach road and the ordering is easy to follow even without Vietnamese.
Ốc Ly Pé is a different thing: it is a shellfish place, snails and clams by the plate, and it is where you go for a long cheap evening rather than a proper dinner.
One rule, and we mean it. Seafood is sold by weight from the tanks.
Point at what you want, watch it weighed, and agree the price per kilo before it goes to the kitchen. This is the single most common bill dispute in Da Nang, it happens to Vietnamese customers too, and thirty seconds of asking prevents all of it.
What are the Da Nang specialities, and where?
If you eat only one category from this article, eat this one. These are the dishes that are specific to this region, and ordering the national dishes here instead is a wasted meal.
| Dish | Place | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Bánh xèo, the crisp central version | Bánh xèo Bà Dưỡng | K280/23 Hoàng Diệu |
| Bánh xèo with shrimp | Ẩm Thực Năm Hiền | 46 Phan Thanh |
| Bánh tráng thịt heo, pork rice paper rolls | Bánh tráng thịt heo Đại Lộc | 97 Trưng Nữ Vương, Bình Hiên, Hải Châu |
| Bánh tráng thịt heo | DONALD TRUNG | 141 Đỗ Bá, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn |
| Mì Quảng | Mỳ Quảng Hồng Vân | 59 Lê Hồng Phong |
| Mì Quảng ếch, with frog | Mỳ Quảng Bà Mua | 259 Hồ Nghinh |
| Bún chả cá, fishball noodles | Bún chả cá Hờn | 113/3 Nguyễn Chí Thanh |
| Bún bò | Bún Bò Bà Diệu | 17 Trần Tống |
| Bún bò Huế | Bún Bò Huế Lê Gia | 372 Đống Đa |
| Bún mắm | Bún mắm Vân | K23/14 Trần Kế Xương |
| Bánh canh | Bánh canh ruộng | 20 Hà Thị Thân |
| Bánh canh cá | Bánh canh cá cô Cúc | Bùi Dương Lịch, Nại Hiên Đông, Sơn Trà |
| Bánh bèo, steamed rice cakes | Bánh bèo bà Bé | 100 Hoàng Văn Thụ |
| Bánh ép, Hue style crepe | Bánh ép Thanh | 90/1 Lê Hữu Trác |
| Cháo lòng, pork bone congee | Bé Bi | 159 Phan Thanh |
| Phở | Phở Long Hói | 122 Hồ Nghinh, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Cút lộn xào me, quail egg with tamarind | Cút lộn xào me | 45 Ngô Gia Tự |
Bánh xèo Bà Dưỡng is the one to prioritise. The central version is small and crisp and eaten rolled into rice paper with a pile of herbs, which is a completely different dish from the large folded southern pancake most visitors expect.
Bánh tráng thịt heo is the dish Da Nang people take visitors to. Boiled pork, rice paper, herbs, and a fermented anchovy sauce, assembled at the table. If you have one meal to spend on a local speciality, spend it here.
Two of these are worth a warning rather than a recommendation. Bún mắm is built on fermented fish sauce and is an acquired taste even for Vietnamese people from other regions. Cút lộn xào me is quail egg, and if you already know what balut is you know whether you want it.
Most of these places are breakfast and lunch operations. Go before 09:00 for the noodle dishes.
BBQ and hotpot
This is what a Vietnamese group books for a birthday, and it is a good way to eat with a large party.
| Place | Type | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Phố Nướng TokyO | BBQ | 4 Phạm Văn Đồng, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Gogi House | Korean BBQ chain | A7 Nguyễn Văn Linh, Hải Châu · Vincom Center · LOTTE Mart, 6 Nại Nam |
| Nhắng nướng | BBQ | 1100 Ngô Quyền |
| Samwon | BBQ | 74 Dương Đình Nghệ |
| Veteran restaurant | BBQ | 8 Dương Đình Nghệ, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| Golden meat house | BBQ | 100 Trần Bạch Đằng, Bắc Mỹ Phú, Ngũ Hành Sơn |
| MUDAN HOTPOT | hotpot | 166 Phan Châu Trinh, Phước Ninh, Hải Châu |
| Mama hotpot | hotpot | 89 Yên Bái, or Lô A2-1 Võ Văn Kiệt |
| Mor fai hotpot | hotpot | 17 Lê Hồng Phong, Phước Ninh, Hải Châu |
Gogi House has three branches, so it is the reliable option when you are somewhere unfamiliar and want a known quantity. Mama hotpot has a branch on Võ Văn Kiệt on the beach side, which is the one to pick if you are staying near the sand.
What if you want a break from Vietnamese food?
Three weeks of noodles is wonderful until it is not. These are the places we send guests to when they need a night off.
| Place | Food | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Pizza 4P’s | pizza | 74 Bạch Đằng, Hải Châu |
| My Casa | Spanish | 53 Morrison, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| Edo Sushi | Japanese | 27 Thái Phiên, Phước Ninh, Hải Châu |
| Umi izakaya | Japanese | 91 Hoàng Văn Thụ, Phước Ninh, Hải Châu |
| Dã Viên | Korean | 86 Lê Mạnh Trinh, Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà |
| PER Korean food | Korean | 10 Phạm Tu, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
| Quán ăn Dim Sum | dim sum | 45A/1 Ngô Gia Tự |
| Dimsum Viên Gia | dim sum | 7 Hưng Hoà 6 |
| Mì Kungfu | Chinese noodles | 225 Nguyễn Văn Thoại |
| Phá lấu Sài Gòn | beef offal, Saigon style | 122 Nguyễn Chí Thanh, Hải Châu |
| Thực Dưỡng Bảo An | vegetarian | 56 Hoàng Bích Sơn, An Hải Bắc, Sơn Trà |
Thực Dưỡng Bảo An is the one to note if anyone in your group is vegetarian. Vietnamese cooking uses fish sauce almost everywhere, including in dishes that look meat-free, so a dedicated vegetarian kitchen removes a lot of negotiation.
Where do you go for a drink?
| Place | Address |
|---|---|
| Hair Of The Dog Bar | 06 Trần Quốc Toản, Hải Châu |
| On The Radio Bar | 76 Thái Phiên, Phước Ninh, Hải Châu |
| Sky36 | 36 Bạch Đằng, Thạch Thang, Hải Châu |
| New Phương Đông | 20 Đống Đa, Thuận Phước, Hải Châu |
All four are across the river in Hải Châu, so plan on a Grab each way. Sky36 is the rooftop with the river view and the one worth doing once. New Phương Đông is a proper late club rather than a bar.
Practical things that will save you money and hassle
- Carry cash. Most of the small speciality places do not take cards. The international restaurants and the chains do.
- Confirm seafood price per kilo before cooking. Said twice on purpose.
- Go early for noodles. Mì Quảng, bún bò and bánh canh are breakfast foods here. By 11:00 the good pots are finished.
- Use Grab and paste the address. Vietnamese addresses with slashes, like K280/23 Hoàng Diệu, are alleys off the main street. Paste the whole thing rather than typing the street name.
- A small place with plastic stools and a crowd is a good sign, not a bad one. The empty air-conditioned place next door is usually empty for a reason.
- Ask us. We eat at these places. If you tell us what you feel like and how far you want to go, we will point you at one and call ahead if it needs booking.
Frequently asked questions
What food is Da Nang famous for? Mì Quảng, bánh xèo in the crisp central style, bánh tráng thịt heo, bún chả cá and seafood. These are regional dishes you will not get the same way elsewhere in Vietnam.
Where do locals eat in Da Nang? The small single-dish places, mostly at breakfast and lunch. Every speciality in the table above is that kind of place rather than a restaurant with an English menu.
Is street food in Da Nang safe? Busy places with high turnover are the safest, because nothing sits around. Choose by the size of the crowd rather than by how clean the frontage looks.
How much should you budget for a meal? It varies enormously between a single-dish shop and a seafood dinner, which is exactly why we do not publish prices that would be out of date within months. Ask us on the day.
Do these restaurants have English menus? The international restaurants and the chains do. Most of the speciality places do not, but they are single-dish shops, so pointing works fine.
Which one should I go to first? Bánh xèo Bà Dưỡng or bánh tráng thịt heo Đại Lộc for a speciality, one of the Bé Mặn houses for seafood. Those three cover what Da Nang is actually known for.
Are these ranked? No. It is a shortlist of places our team has eaten at, grouped by what you feel like eating and how far it is from the beach side.
