Short answer

Da Nang is not a city of famous monuments. It’s a city with a 30km beach on one side, a mountain peninsula at one end, a river through the middle and two UNESCO sites within driving distance.
What you do here is mostly outdoors, mostly cheap, and mostly decided by the time of day.
So this list is ordered by what kind of day you want, not by some ranking. Prices are 2026 and per person.

One administrative note that confuses people reading older guides: since 1 July 2025, the province of Quang Nam has been merged into Da Nang city. Hoi An, My Son and Cham Island are now inside Da Nang’s boundaries, even though they’re still an hour or more away.
What should you do on the beach?
The beach is the reason the city works, and it’s free.
My Khe is the main stretch. The thing worth knowing is the local rhythm: Da Nang swims between roughly 05:00 and 07:00, then again from about 16:00.
Between 11:00 and 15:00 the sand is empty because the sun is brutal, not because the beach is bad.
Go at sunrise at least once. You’ll see the whole city in the water, older people doing exercise routines, fishermen bringing in the small round basket boats. It’s the most local thing you can do in Da Nang and it costs nothing.
Non Nuoc beach, at the southern end near the Marble Mountains, is noticeably quieter if you want space.
Two safety points that guides tend to leave out. Rip currents are real here, particularly outside the flagged and patrolled sections, so swim where other people are swimming. And the sea is roughest from roughly October to February, when swimming is often not sensible at all.
Which mountains and viewpoints are worth it?
Three of them, and they’re very different in effort and cost.
Son Tra peninsula, 10km from the centre, is a mountain covered in jungle with a road looping around it. Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda is the 67m statue you can see from the beach, and the pagoda terrace is the clearest view over Da Nang Bay you’ll get.
The pagoda is open 06:00 to 21:00 and free. Further in, Ban Co Peak is the highest point a vehicle reaches, and the thousand-year banyan tree is nearby. More on getting there in the Lady Buddha guide.
Be honest with yourself about the riding. The loop has long steep gradients and tight corners, there’s no petrol station up there, and a weak automatic scooter struggles. If you’re not a confident rider, take a Grab car.
The Marble Mountains, 20km south, are five limestone outcrops riddled with cave shrines. Entry is 40,000 VND, the lift is 15,000 VND one way, and Am Phu cave is a separate 20,000 VND. Open 07:00 to 17:30. Two hours is right.

Hai Van Pass, 20km north to the foot of the climb, is a 21km road over a 496m saddle with the best coastal view in central Vietnam. Riding it is free. Note that motorbikes are banned from the tunnel, so the pass is the only route.

What is there to do in the city itself?
The city is a river with bridges, and it’s best after dark.
The Dragon Bridge breathes fire and sprays water at 21:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Four bursts of fire, three of water, about fifteen minutes. There are extra shows on major public holidays.
Stand on the east bank looking back toward the dragon’s head, and arrive by 20:30 if you want a decent spot. Schedules shift for weather and events, so confirm on the day.
The Cham Sculpture Museum is 60,000 VND and open 07:00 to 17:00. It holds the largest collection of Cham sculpture anywhere.
If My Son is on your list, come here first, because a lot of the finest carving from My Son now lives in this building rather than at the towers.
Han Market is the tourist-friendly central market, good for dried goods and gifts. Con Market is bigger and more local, which also means harder work without Vietnamese.
A Han River cruise runs 130,000 to 150,000 VND in the evening. On a fire show night, seeing it from the water is a genuinely different angle.
Sun World Danang Wonders, the riverside amusement park on Phan Dang Luu, is 120,000 to 170,000 VND and open 09:30 to 22:30. Go in the evening when it’s cool and lit up.
Where do you eat, and what?
Da Nang’s food is regional and specific. Ordering the national dishes here is a wasted meal.
- Mi Quang. The dish of this region. Turmeric noodles, very little broth, peanuts, rice cracker, herbs. A breakfast food. Neighbourhood shops charge 15,000 to 35,000 VND a bowl, the well-known names 50,000 to 65,000 VND.
- Banh xeo. The central version is small, crisp and eaten rolled in rice paper with greens, not the big folded southern pancake.
- Bun cha ca. Fish cake noodle soup, the local hangover breakfast.
- Seafood. Order by weight at the tanks on the beach roads. Confirm the price per kilo before it’s cooked, every time.
- Banh mi. Cheap, everywhere, best from a busy cart rather than a shop with a sign in English.

What can you do on a rainy day?
Worth planning for, because from around September to December it does rain hard.
- Cham Sculpture Museum. Indoors, an hour and a half, 60,000 VND.
- Nui Than Tai hot springs. Packages run 470,000 to 490,000 VND. Sitting in hot mineral water while it rains is not a compromise.
- Han Market and the coffee shops. Vietnamese coffee culture is a legitimate activity, not a filler.
- Cooking class. Widely available and mostly indoors.
What not to do in rain: Ba Na Hills. You’re paying a million dong for a view, and in cloud the Golden Bridge is a bridge in fog.
Three things that disappoint people
Said plainly, so you can decide with open eyes.
Ba Na Hills between 11:00 and 14:00. Every tour bus arrives in that window. The Golden Bridge is 150m long and it fills completely.
Tickets are 1,000,000 VND for adults from outside the city, 800,000 VND for children 1.0m to 1.4m and visitors over 70, and 650,000 VND with a Da Nang residence card.
Since 1 January 2026 the ticket is valid for three consecutive days with unlimited cable car rides, which is genuinely useful if you’re staying a while.
The Lady Buddha at midday. The terrace is unshaded white stone facing the sea. Go before 09:00.
Booking Hoi An as a Da Nang day trip in the afternoon. You’ll arrive with the crowd and leave with it. Go at 07:00 for empty streets, or after 17:00 for the lanterns, not in between.
How do you fit it into three days?
Group by geography, not by ranking. Everything in this list sits in one of four zones, and a day should stay in one or two of them.
- Day 1. Son Tra and Lady Buddha early, My Khe beach in the afternoon, riverfront at night.
- Day 2. Marble Mountains at opening, Non Nuoc village, then continue south to Hoi An for the evening.
- Day 3. Ba Na Hills on the first cable car, or Hai Van Pass if you’d rather ride than queue.
Try to have your Dragon Bridge night land on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Practical things worth knowing
- Carry cash. Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants. Cave gates, markets, street food and most motorbike rentals want cash.
- Grab is the default. Cars and bikes, fixed price in the app, no negotiation.
- Helmets are compulsory on a motorbike, for the rider and passenger, and it’s enforced.
- You need the right licence to ride legally. A foreign licence alone generally isn’t enough, and driving without a valid one carries a substantial fine. See the motorbike rental guide.
- The sun is stronger than it feels off the sea breeze. Reapply sunscreen.
- Confirm seafood prices per kilo before cooking. This is the single most common bill dispute in the city.

Can you visit Hoi An and My Son from Da Nang in one day? You can, but it’s a long day. My Son takes a morning, Hoi An deserves an evening, and doing both means being on the road from 07:00 to 22:00.
